The Warwickshire Avon flows 77 navigable kilometres from Tewkesbury, where it joins the River Severn, to Stratford-upon-Avon, where it connects with the southern Stratford-upon-Avon Canal. Managed by the Avon Navigation Trust, this is one of England's most charming navigable rivers, winding through the orchards and water meadows of the Vale of Evesham and passing through the market towns of Pershore and Evesham before reaching the birthplace of Shakespeare. Long-stay moorings on the Avon range from purpose-built marinas to riverside sites maintained by local boating clubs. The river is popular with both narrowboats (via the canal connections) and traditional river cruisers. The season can affect water levels significantly — the Avon is prone to flooding in winter, and some mooring sites require boats to be moved during high-water events.
